Self-Review Report

The academic program Self-Review allows academic units the opportunity to review resources and practices as well as reflect on their strengths and shortcomings at meeting the mission and goals of the university, college, and academic unit. The Self-Review encourages the academic unit to consider directions for the future.

To Begin the Self-Review Process

The chair/director of the academic unit typically appoints a chair for the self-review process. The name of the chair of the self-review process is then submitted to the dean and the assistant vice provost for Program Accreditation and Assessment. Subsequently, the chair/director of the academic unit appoints additional faculty (typically including program coordinators), staff, and, as desired, student members to assist in conducting the self-review. After receiving dean's approval, these appointees typically form the Self-Review Committee.

The Self-Review Committee meets to determine a plan for engaging in the self-review process and completing the required Self-Review Report. Some committees may elect to meet on a regular basis while others may opt to gather periodically to review work completed by members or subgroups. Despite the approach taken, it is expected that the committee will collectively discuss the strengths, shortcoming, and future directions of the academic unit and each program.

Drafting the Self-Review Report

The Self-Review Report shall be a concise document that adheres to the Program Self-Review Guidelines outlined in the attached link. The Self-Review Report will contain a title page, an executive summary for each program along with the narrative of the report. The report provides an understandable, clear, and succinct summary of the items addressed. Supporting data and details may be provided in attachments. The report and attachments must be submitted in an electronic format such as in document files. All files must be clearly organized and easily accessible.

Much of the information needed for the Self-Review Report will be provided to the academic unit without the unit needing to request the information. The Offices of Academic Assessment and University Libraries, as well as Budget and Planning and Institutional Research will each contribute information needed to complete the self-review. The assistant vice provost for Program Accreditation and Assessment will provide guidance and answer questions during the program review process.

Routing and Timing of the Self-Review Report
