  • Discuss the clinical significance of abnormal results obtained, correlating patient results as to possible disease and/or therapy states in all areas of the medical / clinical laboratory.
  • Obtain the entry-level credential – MLS (ASCP) for practicing in the medical / clinical laboratory per NAACLS accredited program for graduates.
  • Perform entry-level clinical chemistry skills, including but limited to calibrations / linearity, specimen adaptability / collection, referral / send out testing, operation of appropriate analyzers and special testing.
  • Perform entry-level clinical hematology / coagulation skills, including but not limited to blood smears, specimen adaptability, manual differentials / cell counts, operation of appropriate analyzers and special testing.
  • Perform entry-level clinical immunohematology (blood bank) skills, including but not limited to component processing, specimen adaptability / collection, blood distribution (venipuncture), routine testing (ABO / D antibody screens, cross matches, Ab ID).
  • Perform entry-level clinical microbiology skills, including but not limited to specimen processing, blood cultures, microbial ID / susceptibility, gram stains, plate reading, operation of appropriate analyzers and special testing.
  • Perform QC and Maintenance, including but not limited to all medical laboratory analyzers and assays in all major departments (chemistry, microbiology, hematology, immunohematology, and molecular diagnostics).
